Much like hiring in general, you want to source a few candidates, interview them, and hire the best one. This process is done repeatedly everywhere - except in real estate. A really important part to remember is that it’s easy to become a licensed real estate agent (and there are over 2 million in the US), but the top agents are vastly better to work with than the average agent. You owe it to yourself, and your bank account, to work with the right agent for you, and interviewing is the proven method to achieve this.

Sourcing agents is often done by asking friends/family, or going online to a number of sites where agents advertise their contact information. Agents want to be found, and they usually pay marketing fees in order to show up in the search results. As such, many will give you a heavy pitch and try to get you to sign a contract with them as soon as possible.

This is where you wait. You’re under no obligation to rush and work with an agent before you had a chance to talk with a few different agents. You want to interview them and see which agent is a better fit for you.
